WEST STOCKBRIDGE >> The selectmen, in their capacity as the town's Rent Control Board, voted 3-0 to allow the owners of the Mill Pond Trailer Park to begin the legal process to evict four of their tenants.
Selectman Chairman Curt Wilton said the vote was in no way a decision for or against the trailer park or their tenants.
Rather, he said, the town's RCB was "another layer of bureaucracy" that the state requires some towns to undergo.
No testimony was taken on Monday, and the board did not solicit any. The situation, said Town Administrator Mark Webber, will now be resolved in court, unless the tenants and trailer park owners settle their differences.
That is actually what has already happened in one case, according to Webber. A total of five tenants have withheld their rent, some for up to five months. But between the announcement of the hearing and Monday's hearing, one of the tenants and the park owners have come to a settlement, said Webber.
The park, built in the mid-50s, has 35 lots on it.
Tenants have expressed disappointment with the dilapidated state of the roads and infrastructure at the park. The owners, Lois Gennari and Pam Bartlett, said on Monday that withholding rent cuts into their attempts to make any improvements.
The rent at the park in $241 per unit per month, according to the owners.
