Tanner DeVarennes is a No. 2 seed in the Western Mass achusetts individual tournament for the second straight year.
The Lee junior trails only No. 1 Tom Suchodolski of Amherst, who beat DeVarennes in last year’s final. Monument’s Sam White is the only county girl seeded in the tournament.
White earned a No. 10 seed with a 4-0 record. She’ll be joined by teammates Courtney Fread man and Shea Caligari, Taconic’s Emily Rice, Lee’s Emma Forget, Greylock’s Katie Swoap and Laura Nolan and Drury’s Chelsea Lefebvre in the singles draw. The Mounties’ Alexandra DeVeaux and Margot Besnard are the county’s only doubles entrants.
Monument’s Caleb Breslin and Cam Powell are the only county boys besides DeVarennes to earn a seed. The pair are the No. 3 doubles team at 4-0. DeVarennes will be joined by 10 other county singles players: Pittsfield’s Tom Cimini, Austin Pedercini, and Conor Dempsey; Mount Greylock’s Jonah Majumder and Nyein Soe; Monument’s Satchel Fisher, Graham Hagenah and Kevin Li; and Lee’s Andy Consolati and Matty Kelley. Four other county doubles teams will join Breslin and Powell: Monu ment’s Ian Akers and Oliver Holliday; Greylock’s Jesse Foehl and Will Nolan; and Pittsfield’s two pairings of Matt Nesti and Garrett Dempsey as well as Peter and Brian Desrosiers.
The boys start Saturday morning at Long meadow High School while the girls begin at Smith College in Northampton.
