Wahconah girls 16
DALTON -- The Warriors held a 9-8 lead at halftime thanks in large part to four goals from Jamie Budaj.
Wahconah coach Kathy Budaj told her troops at halftime that the opening of the second half was going to be crucial.
"You have to go out and play hard," the coach said. "We had a letdown and that’s where we gave them the game."
The Bombers scored four goals in the first two-plus minutes of the second half. Roni Orcutt scored two of the four goals in that time span, turning a one-goal Wahconah lead into a three-goal cushion that the Warriors could not come back from.
Ashley Owen scored all five of her goals in the second half for Westfield.
Budaj had a game-high nine goals and Sam Kasala chipped in with five for Wahconah.
"They’re at the top of their division," Budaj said of Westfield. "The way we competed against them, I was proud of the girls."
