LEOMINSTER -- Pittsfield scored three runs in the first inning and Shane Beauchemin allowed just one hit over seven innings to lead the Suns to a 6-0 victory over Wachusett.
Jeff Thomas pitched the last two innings, allowing just one hit for Pittsfield. But it was Beauchemin who was the star, striking out eight and walking three over his seven innings.
The pitchers got plenty of support with Ryan Deitrich and Brendan Slattery hitting back-to-back home runs for Pittsfield (5-2) in the first. Deitrich added two RBI while Rob McLam scored twice.
Jeff Anderson took the loss for Wachusett. He allowed four runs off seven hits in seven innings of work.
Deitrich got thins started in the first, hitting a two-run homer with one out. Slattery, the next batter, followed up with a solo shot of his own. The Suns tacked on one in the first and two more in the second.
Pittsfield is at North Shore tonight at 7 p.m.
North Adams 8, Holyoke 2
HOLYOKE -- North Adams five runs in the last two innings to blow open a tight game.
The SteepleCats led just 3-2 entering the eighth. Tyler Palmer scored an unearned run in that inning. North Adams tacked on four more in the ninth highlighted by a bases-loaded walk and a two-run single from Esteban Tresgallo.
Bryan Soloman also added two RBI while Jeff Roy and Tyler Palmer each scored twice for North Adams (5-1). Tyler Gebler got the win, pitching around 10 hits. He allowed just two runs, one of them earned, and struck out two in seven innings of work.
North Adams is back in action today at Danbury. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
