HOLYOKE -- Nick Narodowy and three relief pitchers combined to toss a seven-hitter as the North Adams SteepleCats beat Holyoke 4-2 on Saturday night.
Narodowy got the win by going seven and giving up two runs on five hits. He walked one and struck out five. One of the two runs was unearned as Narodowy lowered his earned-run average to 2.25.
The Blue Sox tied the game at 2 on a pair of singles, a wild pitch and an RBI ground out by Connor Spencer.
North Adams broke the tie in the top of the eighth when Jeff Roy doubled and scored on Sheehan Planas-Arteaga's base hit. Connor Biggio gave the SteepleCats an insurance run with a solo home run in the ninth inning. It was his fourth of the year.
The Blue Sox threatened in the bottom of the ninth. Matt Longfield came on to pitch the ninth. He gave up a single and a hit-batter with two outs and had a 3-1 count on Chris Woolley. That's when SteepleCats manager Bryan Adamski called for Brian Hunter from the bullpen. Hunter didn't have to throw a pitch because inexplicably, the runner at first, Connor McKay, was caught stealing by SteepleCats catcher Shane O'Connell.
