GLENS FALLS, N.Y. -- Berkshire County pros Rick Pohle and Tom Sullivan qualified for this year's National Senior Club Pro Championship on Monday at Glens Falls Country Club.

Pohle, who will retire as the head professional at Taconic Golf Club in November, won medalist honors and Sullivan, the head pro at Wyantenuck Country Club, finished third in the Northeast New York's PGA Senior Pro Championship.

Pohle had rounds of 70 and 68 in the one-day 36-hole event to finish at 4-under 138 and defeat New York pro Frank Mellett (71-70) by three shots. Sullivan (72-72) earned the third and final spot in the national tournament.

Cranwell Resort, Spa and Golf Club's Dave Strwn (74-74) tied for the fourth and will be the third alternate out of the NENY section.

Tough day for local juniors

WATERTOWN -- Lenox High School's Thomas Villetto shot an 8-over 79 for the best score for a Berkshire County player at the Massachusetts Junior Amateur Championship at Oakley Country Club.

Villetto's round puts him in a tie for 60th place heading into the second round. The field will be cut to the low 50 and ties after today in the 54-hole event.

Villetto's Lenox teammate, Kris Vahle, and Pittsfield High School's Ryan Grande are tied for 76th after shooting 81s.

Stockbridge Golf Club members Matthew Finnerty and Hunter Clutz both shot 84s and are tied for 99th place.

Congdon, Hull win
at Stockbridge

STOCKBRIDGE -- Wyantenuck Country Club's Andy Congdon and Bruce Hull captured the Stockbridge Invitational title on Sunday, defeating the team of Dave Magdalenski and Tom Plungis in the final of the best-ball, match-play tournament.

It was the second win in two weeks for Congdon. The reigning Mass. Senior Player of the Year won the Berkshire Singles title the previous Sunday. He will try to make it three in a row on Saturday when he defends his Allied Championship title at his home course.
