PITTSFIELD -- Nick Masiero had quite a minute in the first half Friday.
He scored two goals in 60 seconds and that’s all the Monument Mountain boys soccer team would need in a 2-0 win over Pittsfield. Curt Rathbun had an assist on the first goal.
"We held them to no goals in the second half," said Pittsfield coach Andrew Antil. "In the first half, they worked the ball well. They’re very physical, very talented. They did a lot of the little things correctly."
Aaron House made eight saves to earn the shutout for Monument.

Graziano assisted on Lee’s first goal, scored by Gabriel Nogueira at the 5:30 mark. Nick Wood made six saves for Lee.
"What was great about the game was that both strikers scored with assists from the midfield, which is exactly how we’ve been training," Lee coach Matt Kollmer said. "We were able to control the midfield today a lot better than we have in the past. It led to some good offensive chances."

McCann 6, Everett 0
SHEFFIELD -- A tough season-opening stretch didn’t get much easier for the Eagles on Friday. McCann took a 5-0 lead by halftime on the strength of Mary Nguyen’s hat trick. All the Hornet goals were unassisted.
This was the second of a four-game-in-five-day stretch for Mount Everett, and coach Jess Tomich said the fatigue was already showing.
"The main issue today was we didn’t have any legs," she said.
Tomich noted that Nguyen’s speed was the difference, as she would run on to whatever ball the midfielders would get to her and break away for a score.
"We played against her before; she’s so fast," the coach added. "Our defense just didn’t play a good game."
Mount Everett went to its bench as much as possible in an attempt to save energy for tonight’s New Lebanon, N.Y., tournament final. Sam Hoover made nine saves in goal for the Eagles, while Alex Wood stopped eight shots for the Hornets. Monique Martel and Alex Lincoln also scored unassisted goals for McCann.
On Thursday night, Mount Everett advanced to the final of the New Lebanon tournament on a game-winning goal by freshman Emily Coon in the 55th minute of a 2-0 win over the hosts.
Brooke Morehouse added a tally on a free kick in the 62nd minute. Hoover made seven saves for the shutout.
