PITTSFIELD -- Getting a goal in the first minute of play Saturday night, the Wahconah hockey team rebounded from its first blemish of the Hennessy League season to shut out Taconic 6-0.
Ryan Ouimet scored three times, and Nick Montferret added a goal and three assists as the Warriors came closer to qualifying for the Western Mass. Division III-A tournament again. A win or a tie Wednesday against Mount Everett gets Wahconah (9-3-1) in.
Lane Grogan started the scoring just 41 seconds into the game.
"It was nice to have a good start," Wahconah coach Don Disbrow said. "We tend to be a slow-starting team and come on strong later. They had us pinned for 35 seconds to start the game off, and we scored on a rush."
Disbrow's top line handled all the scoring again, but the coach saluted his second line of senior Jake Beckwith and freshmen Nate Lapine and Andrew Beaudoin.
"Defense is their first and foremost job, but we're slowly starting to work in more offensive stuff," he said. "I'll tell you what, they're starting to click a lot better. Their breakouts were strong tonight."
Roger Stedman stopped 12 shots for the victors.
