Mount Everett's Bradley Lupiani is in the consolation brackets at the New England wrestling championships in Providence, R.I.
Lupiani, at 113 pounds, fell in his first match but rebounded in a big way in wrestlebacks. He beat Bryce Bernadine of Mount Mansfield, Vt., by a 19-2 technical fall to stay alive in the bracket. Lupiani will now meet Cody Beaudette of Cumberland, R.I. in the next consolation round.
"I got on a roll and kept getting points," Lupiani said of the win. "I was tilting him to his back, not to pin, just to get points."
Lupiani, a sophomore, lost an 8-4 decision in his first-round match to Kyle Lindner of New Milford, Conn. That put him in the consolation round against Bernadine.
Lupiani, the Western Mass. champion and Division III state runner-up, is 38-4 this season. The tech fall was his 99th career victory.
"It's definitely a little bit harder," Lupiani said of the regional level. "Practice [to prepare], and that's about it."
