LEE -- The doubles teams swept, Tanner DeVarennes stayed unbeaten and Lee qualified for the Western Massachusetts tennis tournament with a 3-2 win over Monument Mountain.

"The kids, they're having a good time," Lee coach John Perry said. "I think knowing that we're going to be in the postseason, that gets everybody pumped too."

Playing less than a week after their last meeting, the Wildcats sported two different doubles teams. Jack Harding moved from third singles to first doubles and paired with Joe Winston to beat Ian Akers and Isaac Graves, 6-2, 6-3. Matty Kelly moved down from first doubles to second, and he and Mike Eckert teamed for a fairly easy 6-2, 6-2 win over Andrew Rada and Jan Trousilek.

"The first doubles team, they enjoy playing together," Perry said. "Our second doubles team, they have fun playing together too."

Monument's Kevin Li and Sam Plishtin won second and third singles, respectively.

PITTSFIELD -- At Reid Middle School, sophomore Kaleb Hould's straight-set win over Andrew Krom gave Pittsfield the team victory.

Hould had a easy time in the first set, but Krom pushed Hould to the limit in the second set before the PHS No. 3 singles player won 6-0, 7-6 (7-2).

GREAT BARRINGTON -- Samantha White's win at No. 1 singles was the decisive point for Monument Mountain, according to Spartan coach Jeff Caligari.

"She was down 1-4 and 2-5 in the first set, and came back to win it," said Caligari. "And then she won the second set, 6-1. It was a good win for her."

The key win for the Generals came at No. 3 singles as Clara Quitmann needed a second-set tiebreaker to beat Maya Neski 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).

PITTSFIELD -- At Kirvin Park, visiting Greylock scored 10 goals in the first quarter and the Generals never caught up.

Michael McCormack led the way with seven goals and two assits, while his brother Brett had six goals and an assist.

Pittsfield (8-4) still needs one more win to qualify for the Western Mass. tournament.

PITTSFIELD -- Matt Duane had 4 goals and 2 assists while Paul Green had 4 goals and an assist as the Braves (5-7) got a big win.

Taconic had gone 1-2 last week, and the Braves were looking to change the momentum.

"It was a nice bounce-back" win, said Taconic coach Bill O'Brien-Garvey. "I was pleased with our effort."
