WILLIAMSTOWN -- Lee is unbeaten no more.

The Mount Greylock girls' lacrosse team used a relentless attack to hand the Wildcats their first regular season loss as a varsity team, 16-8 on Monday.

"It feels really amazing," Maggie Rorke said. "I think we all knew that it was time that we were able to beat Lee. We just needed to believe in ourselves more and focus, mainly."

Going back to last year, Lee had played all four county teams five times and never lost, good for a 20-0-1 record. Then they came to Williamstown without leading scorer Megan Gaul and starting goalie Hanna Hunter, and the Mounties jumped all over the opportunity.

Lucy Barrett had four goals in the first 12 minutes, 15 seconds before getting some help from Sarah Stripp and company. The additional scorers helped take a 4-3 Greylock lead to a 9-6 advantage at the half.

"It was just a great win and it feels really good to beat them after we've lost to them twice and they haven't lost a county game," Barrett said. "We came in and I think that we just took it to them. We were all fired up."

"It was a good comeback," said General coach Scott Aitken. "We didn't get down when we fell behind, and I thought both goalies made some big saves."

BELCHERTOWN -- The Mounties had a quick turnaround after the opening day of the singles tournament, but showed no sign of being tired.

Greylock swept the singles matches with Margot Besnard, Tara Shastri and Melina Sfakianaki all earning straight-set wins. Mariza Sfakianaki and Charlotte Rand won the doubles point for Greylock, also in straight sets.

The most exciting set of the day did not fall Greylock's way. Abby Tague and Gianna Renzi found themselves in a first-set tie break that went all the way to 14-12; they just were on the wrong end.
