PORTSMOUTH, N.H. -- Mike Geannelis tossed three shutout innings of relief and was backed up by a three-run sixth inning as the Pittsfield Suns rallied to beat the Seacoast Mavericks 6-3 on Wednesday.
Geannelis came on in relief of Harrison Paige in the top of the fifth inning. While the former Mount Greylock right-hander didn't make it easy on himself by walking four Mavericks hitters, none of them got farther than second base. He also struck out four.
Reliever Adam Whitt, the fourth Pittsfield pitcher, tossed 12 3 innings of shutout baseball to pick up his second save.
It was a power-packed night for the Suns offense as they hit three home runs.
Kyle Singleton, the Futures League player of the night for Tuesday, hit a solo homer in the fourth inning. Ryan Deitrich, who hit a team-best eight last year, hit a solo homer in the sixth to give the Suns a 3-2 lead. Three hitters later, Steve Dill hit the first pitch he saw out of the park for a two-run home run that put the Suns up 5-2. It was Dill's first Futures League home run. He did not hit one last year with Pittsfield.
Singleton finished up 3 for 5 with two RBI and a run scored. McLam had two hits for the Suns.
The Suns are off tonight and will play at Nashua on Friday before returning home for weekend games against Torrington on Saturday and Seacoast on Sunday.
