PITTSFIELD -- Ethan Forfa fired a two-hit shuout and the Pittsfield Babe Ruth 13-year-old All-Stars took advantage of 13 walks to score a 15-0 win over North Adams in the Division 1 Tournament on Saturday.
The game was shortened to five innings by the mercy rule.
Drew Demartino had two hits, two walks and scored three runs to lead the winners. The two teams will play the second game of this best-of-three series at Alcombright Field in North Adams at noon today. A third game, if necessary, will be played 20 minutes after the end of the first contest.
The other All-Star tournaments are also scheduled to wrap up today. Pittsfield and North Adams will play in the 14-year old final at Deming Park starting at noon. The 15-year old tournament will be held at Renfrew Field in Adams at 5 p.m. Pittsfield and North Adams are also playing there.
Berkshire Force beaten
GREENFIELD -- The Berkshire Force Under-18 softball team lost three games in the New England U-18 Softball Qualifier Tournament on Saturday.
The Force lost to the Central Mass. Destruction 4-3, to CMX of Connecticut 5-4 and 7-2 to the Whips.
This was the seeding round of the tournament. Today, the Force, seeded sixth in the eight-team playoff, will begin play at 9 a.m.
Alexis Bushika threw a six-hitter in the first game, walking one and striking out four. Amanda Ely had a hit and scored a run for Berkshire.
In the loss to CMX, Ely had two hits and scored two runs. Cat Record took the loss. Dominique Satrappe had a hit and a run scored in the third game. Bushika took the loss on the mound.
