PITTSFIELD -- Schuyler Robinson struggled for most of the night at Deming Field: Seven walks, two wild pitches, a number of hard-hit balls.

But, in the end, no hits.

Robinson's gutty no-hitter sprung the North Adams 15-year-olds to a 7-3 win over Pittsfield in the District 1 Babe Ruth Finals. The two teams will meet again today at noon at Alcombright Field in North Adams in the "if necessary" game.

"I was getting very frustrated in the beginning of the game, because I wasn't getting my curve ball over," Robinson said. "But after the third, it just started flowing."

"I was a little concerned as to how we would respond after we got beat in the first game we played against Pittsfield," said North Adams coach Joe Altiere. "But we bounced back. Schuyler pitched a great game, and we got some big hits."

North Adams took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single by Brodie Altiere and a sacrifice fly by Matt Koperniak.

But Pittsfield bounced back on two walks, a wild pitch and two errors, which brought home three runs.

That's how it stayed until the top of the fifth inning. Robinson was pitching well, and his Pittsfield counterpart, Sam Fick, was also throwing hard. In the first four innings, Fick allowed just two hits.

But the visitors broke through in the fifth. With the bases loaded, Brodie Altiere singled home Shane Garvey to tie the game. Up stepped Koperniak, who blasted a shot down the first base line to score two more runs.

"I was just trying to rip the ball," said Koperniak. "I just wanted to put it in play. Fortunately, the first baseman was playing off the bag a little, and the ball got through."

Altiere came home on a fielder's choice to give North Adams a 6-3 advantage.

Meanwhile, Robinson, who had been staggering through the first three innings, suddenly found his rhythm. In the last four, he set down all 12 of the batters he faced, striking out six, including three batters looking.

He did walk a batter in the fifth and another batter advanced to first on a wild pitch/strikeout. But both runners were erased by a double play.

Robinson, a sophomore at Drury High School last year, recalled that he threw a no-hitter in Little League, but never before in Babe Ruth.
