Worthington Golf Club’s Doug Reed won low gross honors in the A Division (ages 50-65) of the Berkshire County Senior Golf Association’s final event of the year on Monday, firing a 6-over 77 at Waubeeka Golf Links.
Reed also captured season honors for having the lowest scoring average in the division.
In B Division (65-70), Steve Peters of the Country Club of Pittsfield was the medalist with an 83 while Egremont Country Club’s Bill Case was the season champion. Case also took the season honor for the lowest net scoring average.
Wahconah Country Club’s Charlie Sawyer shot an 86 to win in Division C (71-74) while Skyline Country Club’s Dick Rivers had the season’s best scoring average.
In D Division (75 and over), Wyantenuck Country Club’s Steve Mack led the way with an 84 and Worthington Golf Club’s Doug Link was the season champion.
The organization also celebrated the completion of its 60th anniversary season at Monday’s tournament.
Steve Magargal and Jay Nomakeo teamed up to take top honors in Group A and the combination of Ed Chandler and Mark Gilligan prevailed in Group B in this week’s Berkshire County Senior Fall Golf Series event at Waubeeka Golf Links.
Both teams combined for rounds of 4-under 67 in the scramble format to earn their victories in the 58-team event.
This week’s tournament will be played Wednesday at Wahconah Country Club. Next week’s tournament, a singles event at Greenock Country Club, has been moved back a day to Thursday, Oct. 3. The series finale at GEAA, reports Dick Rivers, already has a full field of 16 four-man teams.
Last weekend’s golf notebook and local golf results focused on the results of club championships at Berkshire County courses in recent weeks. There was one significant oversight -- the women’s club championship at Stockbridge Golf Club.
So, congratulations are in order for Karen Williams, who captured her seventh championship at the historic club. Williams had rounds of 90 and 86 to edge Heidi Nejaime (90-89) by three shots. Terrie Bloom (89-91) finished third another shot back.
It was Williams’ first club championship since 2000. Williams said she had only competed a couple of times over the past 13 years for various reasons.
