PITTSFIELD -- Wahconah scored very time they had the ball on Saturday, and cruised to a 42-0 win over the Braves.
Both teams emptied their benches after halftime, when the Warriors took a 30-0 lead.
"It’s tough," said Wahconah coach Gary Campbell after the game. "I want Taconic to succeed, because it’s good for them and good for the league. And I know the coaches over there are doing their best. I’m hoping those young kids stick with the program, because they have some good ones."
The Warriors took the lead for good on a 37-yard touchdown run from Ethan Wells. After holding the Braves to a three-and-out sequence, a bad punt gave Wahconah the ball at the Taconic 38. On the first play from scrimmage, Wells found Darrow Brown in the flat at about the 20-yard-line, and Brown ran it in for a score and a 16-point lead.
The Braves stirred a little bit when sophomore Javon Reynolds ripped off a nice eight-yard run after the kickoff. But that yardage was erased by a penalty, and the Warriors held.
Wahconah’s Eli Pease ripped off a 26-yard run to open the second quarter and the warriors were off and running again. On the next play, Wells found Brown on the right side, and once again, Brown was gone, this time for a 45-yard touchdown score.
The Warriors’ final score in the first half was a five-yard run by Quinn Caesar to cap a six-play drive.
Caesar added another touchdown in the third quarter.
Wahconah’s third-string quarterback, Will Genaway, scored the final touchdown of the afternoon on a four-yard run.
Caesar rushed for 72 yards on nine carries to lead the Warriors on the ground. Brown’s only two receptions were for touchdowns, and he amassed 83 yards in all.
Nick Pomeroy led the Braves with 22 yards on nine carries.
