HOLYOKE -- Brett Pecor rushed for 123 yards and two touchdowns, while teammate Ethan Hller added 110 yards and another pair of scores as McCann clinched first place in the Division IV playoffs with a 40-12 over Dean Tech.
The Hornets built a 19-0 lead scores by Pecor, Billy Lincoln and Rahmer Vincent before Tech cut the lead to 13 at halftime on a touchdown by quarterback Joe Colon.
Heller opened the third quarter with a three-yard run to push the lead to 26-6. But Colon pulled off a spectacular 73-yard run to cut the lead to 26-12.
The Hornet settled down and finished the game with a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns by Pecor and Heller.
The win improves McCann to 7-1 and clinches the top spot in the Division VI playoffs. Hornet coach Bob LeClair said that it appears Turners Falls has clinched the fourth seed in the playoffs and will travel to North Adams next Saturday.
"We’ll be home, that’s for sure," said LaClair.
The McCann coach was glad for the win, but less than thrilled with his team’s execution.
"Very sloppy on defense," he said. "we missed a lot of tackles. That run by Colon was a highlight film _ either to his abaility or our poor tackling, I don’t know."

NORTH ADAMS -- A pair of first half goals staked sixth-seeded McCann to an early lead in a win over No. 11 Pathfinder.
"Just a better game all around," said Hornet coach Mike Dowling. "We lost to Keefe Tech a few days ago, and that was a wake up call. We just played so much better today: good pressure, beating them to the ball, good solid defense."
Three different players scored for the Hornets: Alli Gibeau, Hannah Woods and Lexi Andrews. Alex Wood earned the shutout with seven saves.
The Hornets will play at No. 3 Gateway in the Division IV quarterfinals on Tuesday.
