DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- This trip to Florida couldn’t have gone any better for the Williams College women’s basketball team.

The Ephs return with the Daytona Beach Shootout championship trophy along with their perfect record and No. 12 national ranking intact after beating Potsdam State 65-42 in the title game on Friday.

"We had much better execution today. We played solid team defense and we improved dramatically on the boards," said Eph coach Pat Manning.

Williams (10-0) led 31-26 at halftime, but roared out to a 23-2 run to open the second half and leave Potsdam in the dust.

Kellie Macdonald started the run when she pulled down a defensive rebound and went coast-to-coast. Ellen Cook scored seven of her game-high 20 points in that run, while Macdonald (11 points) scored five and Katie Litman (10 points) had four. Litman registered a double-double with 10 rebounds, eight on the offensive glass.

Williams will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 4, when the Ephs host RPI.
