FALLS VILLAGE, Conn. -- Malik Wilbon had 27 points and Kenny Krom added 21 as Mount Everett remained undefeated with a 70-62 win over host Housatonic Valley Regional on Monday night.

"We had some injuries tonight, and we started Kenny. He did a great job for us," said Eagle coach Jowe Warren. "He’s only a sophomore, and he played on the jayvees for me last year. He came up big."

Sage Angell added 10 points for the winners, now 3-0.

Wahconah 63, St. Joseph 26

NORTH ADAMS -- Marcus Duncan’s 14 points was a key to the Warriors’ win.

"They’ve been putting up some pretty good numbers," said Wahconah coach Dustin Belcher of the Crusader boys. "They’ve hit 70 a couple times. We had a good effort on defense and we shared the ball, particularly in the third quarter."

Wahconah outscored their opponent 24-4 in the third.

Pat Latini had nine points for St. Joseph.

Gateway 68, McCann 53

HUNTINGTON -- Shane Fuller had 30 points for the Hornets, but he was matched by the Gators’ Curtis Downers, who also had 30. In addition, Kelvin Downers, the brother of Curtis, scored 21.

"Every time we shot, they released their guards," said Hornet coach Mike Nykorchuck. "To counter that, you can either rebound or get back on defense. We did neither very well.

"Shane was awesome," said Nykorchuck of his guard. "He’s a tough little bugger."

Girls basketball
St. Joseph 48, Smith Voc 16.

PITTSFIELD -- The Crusaders jumped all over Smith, blowing out to a 22-3 lead after a quarter.

"We’ve been working on the press," said Crusader coach Antwan Morrison. "We press and get out on the break. We wanted to get them down early."

Liz Bean led the winners (3-1) with 18 points, while Allysa Creamer added 15.

Brattleboro, Vt. 52, Monument 38

BRATTLEBORO -- A 20-9 first quarter put the Spartans in a hole out of which they could not crawl.

"Not too many bright spots tonight," said Monument coach Chris Unsworth.

Vanessa Troiano and Kayla Aberdale led the Spartans with 10 points apiece.

Drury 52, Lenox 11

NORTH ADAMS -- The Drury girls basketball team used its swarming defense to beat Lenox in the Wein tournament title game.

The Blue Devils were aggressive in the passing lanes, and forced turnovers using full-court pressure as well.

Drury opened the game with a 18-2 first quarter advantage and did not look back.

Megan Benoit led the Blue Devils with 11 points including three 3-pointers in the second half.

Taconic sweeps Taconic Hills

PITTSFIELD -- George Sommerville turned in another strong perforance winning the 100 and 200 freestyle and anchoring two winning relay teams as Taconic beat Taconic Hills 65-49 to improve to 3-0.

On the girls’ side Gillian Campbell won twice to pace the Taconic girls to their first win of the year, 100-68. Campbell’s wins came in the 100 free and 100 backstroke.

Quinton Cookis was also a double winner for the boys, picking up victories in the 200 IM and the 500 free.

Louisa Dodds won the 200 and 500 free and teammate Jamie Albrecht won the 100 fly and the 100 breast stroke.

Wahconah, New Lebanon split

NEW LEBANON, N.Y. -- Mitch Salvini was a double-winner as Wahconah defeated New Lebanon in boys swimming, 43-14. Salvini won the 100 breast and the 200 freestyle.

On the girls side, Gigi French and Amanda Despart were double winners as New Lebanon beat the Warriors, 53-36.
