CHESHIRE -- Lucy Barrett and Ari Walden combined to outscore Frontier Regional as Mount Greylock beat the Red Hawks 48-34 in the opener of the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament Saturday at Hoosac Valley High School.
Barrett, who is now 22 points shy of the 1,000-point mark for her career, had a game-high 22 points while Walden chipped in with 10.
Greylock coach Paul Barrett said he was a little concerned with how his team would play having had only one hour of practice on Friday and playing outside of their usual routine.
His concern was misplaced as the Mounties jumped out to a 16-4 lead after one quarter and the visitors never caught up.
"I was ecstatic," said Barrett. "We did a little full-court pressure that we’ve been working on, and we caused some turnovers."
Amanda Miner led Frontier with 16 points and Olivia Reardon added 11 for the Red Hawks.
Barrett will now have two chances to reach the 1,000-point milestone this week and both will be on the road. The Mounties play at Lenox Tuesday night and at Mount Everett on Friday.
