NORTH ADAMS -- Todd Juliano and Anthony Papio powered the North Adams Steeplecats to a 9-5 win over Danbury on Sunday. Both hit big home runs for the SteepleCats.
Juilano’s three-run homer in the fourth inning, and Papio’s three-run long ball in the sixth was all the offense North Adams (4-3) needed. Juliano finished 2 for 4 with four runs batted in.
Ed Voyles earned the win for the SteepleCats pitching five innings, scattering three hits and striking out two at Joe Wolfe Field.
The Westerners attempted a comeback as they scored four runs in the seventh and eighth innings, cutting North Adams; lead to four.
Morgan Brennan started the scoring in the seventh with an RBI ground rule double. Vimael Machin scored on a Zach Lavy sacrifice fly, and Brennan came around to score on a fielder’s choice. In the eighth, Alex Tuccio scored on a putout to the pitcher after reaching base on a dropped third strike.
Zach Lavy led Danbury with two hits and two RBI.
Brian Murphy took the loss, allowing five runs and seven hits in 3 2/3 innings pitched.
