Newly crowned Women’s Golf Association of Massachusetts senior champion Kathy Duguay wasn’t the only Taconic Golf Club member to have a good week.

Cheryl Krueger, a former club champion and the 2013 Women’s Allied champion, shot an 8-over 80 at historic Newport (R.I.) Country Club to qualify for the U.S. Women’s Senior Amateur Championship, which will be played in New Jersey in September.

Krueger tied for eighth in the sectional qualifier to earn one of 10 spots up for grabs. Lisa McGill, of Philadelphia, was the medalist with a 72.

There were two first-time winners in Forest Park Country Club’s club championship.

Garret Kuta won by seven shots in the 54-hole men’s tournament. He finished at 227 to defeat Jay Sniezek and Leo Romanos by seven shots.

In the women’s event, Angie Lingner edged Holly McGovern by one shot. Lingner shot 184 over 36 holes.

Other winners were Joe Cameron (men’s net), Tom Bednarz (senior men) and Joe Maruco (senior net).

Wyantenuck Country Club head professional Tom Sullivan finished second overall and first in the 60-69 age group in the Northeast New York PGA Section’s Senior Stroke Play Championship at the Edison Club in Rexford, N.Y., last week.

Sullivan shot a 72 to win his age group by six shots. He finished three shots behind overall winner Peter Gerard of Mills Road Acres Golf Course in Latham, N.Y.

Greenock Country Club’s Bob Mucha tied for second in the 50-59 age group with a 73.

The NENY section makes a visit to the Berkshires today and Tuesday for one of its biggest events -- the NENY Stroke Play Championship. Tee times at the Wahconah Country Club will be between 8-9:12 a.m. both days.

There’s little doubt who the man to beat is -- Scott Berliner is the three-time defending champion.
