UNICO of Pittsfield, a non-profit Italian-American service organization, will induct five Berkshire County athletes into the UNICO Berkshire County Baseball and Softball Hall of Fame on Friday at 6 p.m. at the Berkshire Hills Country Club.
Those to be inducted include Randy Driscoll, a four-year member of the Lee High School baseball team which won three Western Massachusetts championships included a state championship finalist. He went on to play at American International College and upon graduation was signed by the New York Mets organization.
Also included is Rick Flynn, who played for three years at Pittsfield High School where his team won the Western Massachusetts championship and was also a state championship finalist. He continued his baseball career at the University of Massachusetts.
Jenna Giardina, who will be inducted, was a four-year starter for the Taconic High School softball team. She continued her softball career at Franklin Pierce College.
Also to be inducted is Kristin Perkins, a four-year softball starter at Pittsfield High School. Her team was a state championship finalist in her senior year. She is a graduate of Quinnipiac University.
Finally, inductee Jerry Sprague was a three-year varsity baseball player at Drury High School. His team won two Western Massachusetts championships and won the state championship in his senior year.
These individuals will join 107 others who have been inducted since 1996. Through this and other events, UNICO has raised over $270,000 in scholarship money that has been awarded to deserving seniors.
