SPRINGFIELD — A late comeback attempt wasn't enough for the Taconic hockey team.
Andy Cella scored twice, helping the Braves to eventually pull within two after a six-goal deficit, but West Springfield outlasted Taconic, 8-4.
Kevin Quinto and Brandon Peaslee also scored for the Braves (0-4), who trailed 6-0 after the Terriers scored twice in the first period and registered the first four goals of the second.
But Cella scored with just under five minutes remaining in the second, pulling Taconic to within 6-1 heading into the third.
With just under half of the third period already played, Peaslee scored followed by goals 20 seconds apart from Quinto and Cella with 4:44 and 4:24 left in the game, pulling the Braves to within 6-4.
However, goals from the Terriers only 26 seconds apart less than one minute later doubled the West Springfield lead to 8-4.
