DALTON — The Dalton Community Recreation Association is very pleased to announce The John Fox Memorial Fund's grant of $2500 which funded pre-season clinics and equipment for its K-2 basketball leagues.

The Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade basketball leagues are well-attended and provide an opportunity for our volunteers to promote youth basketball in an environment that emphasizes the importance of hard work, respect, teamwork and skill development.

Skill-specific clinics provided the children with an opportunity to learn the game of basketball in a training/practice environment, supplementing the game-oriented play that they experience in the existing program. The clinics also provided a welcoming environment for our volunteer coaches to learn how to teach the game.

The clinics involved a detailed, organized youth training curriculum, designed by professional basketball instructors. As volunteer instructors, Wahconah Warriors boys and girls basketball teams and coaches hosted three clinics.

At the fourth and final clinic, the young players enjoyed an evening with MCLA men's basketball team and their head coach, Tony Skiffington, at Wahconah Regional High School. At the end of the evening, the kids received MCLA men's basketball team posters and had the opportunity to get signatures from the team and coaches.

John Fox—raised, attended schools and played sports in Dalton—spent many years volunteering in youth programs as a coach in Dalton and Hinsdale Leagues. Upon the untimely passing of John, his family made a memorial donation in John's honor to help fund a scoreboard at WRHS.

The John Fox Memorial Fund carries on the memory of John Fox and his passion for children's recreational activities. Funds support children's basketball programs throughout Berkshire County by providing financial assistance helping local groups provide a safe, enjoyable, team-oriented basketball program for the children of Berkshire County.
