WILLIAMSTOWN — The Williams women's basketball team bounced back from an opening-night NESCAC loss with a 73-58 win over Trinity on Sunday.

The win pushes Williams to 11-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference, Trinity falls to 9-2 and 0-1.

Williams held the scoring edge in the first and second quarters, taking a 41-33 into the break. But out of halftime, Trinity clawed its way back and tied the game at 50-50 going into the fourth.

In the final frame, though, Williams outscored Trinity by 15 to walk away with the win.

Amanni Fernandez led the Ephs with 24 points and six assists in the win. Devon Caveney added 19 points, and Katie Litman just missed out on a double double with 10 points and eight boards.

Trinity's Mackenzie Griffin led all scorers with 26.

The Ephs return to the court on Friday at Colby.


HARTFORD, CONN. >> The Williams men suffered a heartbreaking loss on Sunday, falling to Trinity 76-75 on the road.

The win drops Williams to 8-5 overall and 0-2 in the NESCAC.

Williams had it all to do in the second half after falling behind 45-38 at the break. The Ephs nearly pulled off the comeback when Cole Teal hit a pair of free throws with six seconds left to make it 75-74 for the Ephs, but Trinity responded with a layup by Jaquann Starks back the other way to get the win.


Kyle Scadlock had 20 points in the loss for Williams, and Bobby Casey came off the bench to score 17 for the Ephs. Daniel Aronowitz had 15 points and five rebounds, while Teal finished with 12 points.

Trinity got 21 points and 11 rebounds from Ed Ogundeko, and Shay Ajayi added 19 points.

Williams returns to action on Tuesday at home against Johnson State in a non-conference contest.

PITTSFIELD >> Brandon Peaslee, Kevin Quinto and Steve Poripski scored two goals each, leading Taconic over Mount Everrett. The Braves controlled the game, taking a 5-0 lead into the final period. Jake Corcoran scored Everett's lone goal in the third period.

NORTH ADAMS >> The Wahconah hockey team skated to an easy win over South Hadley on Saturday, winning 12-2.

Mike Bloom led the charge with a hat trick for the Warriors.

The win pushes Wahconah to 6-0 on the season.

High School Girls Basketball


NORTH ADAMS >> On Friday, the Hoosac Valley girls topped Drury in a rivalry tilt in North Adams.

Drury led 13-8 after a quarter, but the Hurricanes responded in the second with a 24-4 frame to take the lead into halftime.

Hoosac Valley once again got a balanced effort, with Kailynne Frederick pouring in a game-high 19 points while Madi Ryan (11 points), Fallon Field (11 points) and Lexi Mercier (10 points) all hit double figures.

Drury was led by Kaite Toomey, who scored 11 points, and Jenna Moulton, who contributed with 10.

Hoosac improves to 7-1 with the win, while Drury falls to 4-3.
