WEST SPRINGFIELD >> The Wahconah hockey team earned a No. 3 seed in the upcoming Western Mass. Division III-A tournament at Saturday's seeding meeting at the Dante Club.
The Warriors (14-4-1) will face No. 6 St. Mary's on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Olympia Ice Center in West Springfield. The game is part of a doubleheader, with No. 4 Chicopee vs. No. 5 Belchertown to follow at the same location at 8 p.m.
The top two seeds, No. 1 Amherst and No. 2 Chicopee Comp, each receive byes to the semifinal round. The semifinal games will take place on Thursday, also at Olympia Ice Center as a doubleheader.
Western Mass. D-IIIA will host its championship game on Thursday, March 10 at 5:30 p.m. at the Olympia Ice Center.
The only game Wahconah has played against another Western Mass. D-IIIA team was back on Jan. 15. The Warriors tied top-seeded Amherst, 1-1, on the road.
Wahconah does have familiarity with other teams from previous postseasons, though.
As the No. 5 seed in last season's tournament, Wahconah defeated Belchertown, 2-0, before beating No. 1 Chicopee, 6-5, in the sectional semifinal round. The Warriors fell in the Western Mass. championship to No. 2 Chicopee Comp, 4-2.
Back in 2014, the Warriors won the Western Mass. Division III-A title. Second-seeded Wahconah defeated No. 7 Easthampton, No. 6 Belchertown and No. 5 Chicopee, 7-6, en route to the crown. Wahconah lost in the D-IIIA state final that year.

No. 6 St. Mary's vs. No. 3 Wahconah at 6 p.m. Winner vs. No. 2 Chicopee Comp on Saturday.
No. 5 Belchertown vs. No. 4 Chicopee at 8 p.m. Winner vs. No. 1 Amherst on Saturday.
