AUBURNDALE, FLA., >> Colby-Sawyer swept the MCLA baseball team during its doubleheader on Thursday. The losses are the Trailblazers' third and fourth in a row, respectively, and drop MCLA to 2-6 on the year. Colby-Sawyer defeated MCLA 12-4 in the first game and 9-8 in the second game.

The Chargers jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three innings to start the doubleheader. Billy Pulasky cut the deficit in half with a two-run double in the bottom of the third. The Chargers added four more runs over the next two innings, then iced the game with a four-run seventh. Liam Nolan added a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh for MCLA.

Chris Mitchell earned his first win of the season, allowing no earned runs over five innings while surrendering eight hits. Todd Hunt took the loss.

In the second game, Colby-Sawyer erased a 7-2 deficit for the win. After scoring two runs in the fourth and four runs in the fifth, pinch-runner Shawn McCarthy scored from second on a throwing error from pitcher Robert Jutras in the sixth, putting the Chargers up 9-8. Offensively, Jutras led MCLA with three hits and three RBI. Nate Alibozek added three hits and two RBI. Alibozek was credited with the loss, despite not allowing an earned run in the sixth.

MCLA will look to end its skid with its final game in Florida this morning at 9:15 against Utica.

CLERMONT, FLA., >> The MCLA women started the season with a loss to Goucher. Goucher led 14-3 after the first half.


Jessica Borucki led the Gophers with four goals and three assists. Mackenzie Cutler and Natalie Caney had two goals each for MCLA. In goal, Zoe Elwell had six saves in the loss.
