AUBURNDALE, FLA., >> The MCLA baseball team used two big innings to defeat Utica 6-4 on Friday. The win snaps a four-game losing streak for the Trailblazers.
MCLA capitalized on six Utica errors to win the game. Joe Dimassimo plated two with a triple in the fifth inning. He scored on a balk. Nate Gutmann started the sixth with a single. Nate Alibozek advanced him with a sacrifice bunt and Ryan Shook moved him to third with a single. Billy Pulasky plated Gutmann, as he reached on an error. Liam Nolan followed with a single and Nick Disanti was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Brett Labonte plated two, as he also reached on an error, putting the 'Blazers up 6-3.
Robert Jutras got his first win of the season. He did not allow a run over four and one-third innings, striking out two and scattering four hits. Eamonn Andre earned the save with a perfect two-thirds of an inning.
MCLA will travel to face Lasell at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
MCLA DROPS TWO IN FLORIDA
CLERMONT, FLA., >> MCLA lost its final two games during its trip to Florida. North Central College defeated MCLA 5-3 in the first game, while Allegheny beat MCLA 4-1 in the second game.
North Central broke a scoreless tie with a three-run fourth inning. The Cardinals scored their winning run in the fifth off a Trailblazers error. Rachel Quackenbush took the loss.
In the second game. Allegheny jumped out to a three-run lead in the second inning. Chelsea Coleman scored on a Alex Romano RBI groundout for MCLA's lone run of the game.
Allison Cabo earned the win. She allowed one run over five and one-third innings.
MCLA will have an extended layoff before returning to action March 30 for a doubleheader against RPI starting at 3 p.m.
