WESTFIELD >> For the second time this year, MCLA's Rachel Quackenbush is the MASCAC softball pitcher of the week.
The senior from Hoosick Falls, N.Y., went 1-1 with 12 strikeouts in 12 innings of work last week. She did not give up an earned run in those 12 innings and allowed only six hits. One of her performances was a five-inning, no-hitter against Southern Vermont. She struck out eight and retired 15 consecutive batters after issuing a leadoff walk.
She went 6 1/3 innings in a 1-0 loss to RPI, giving up an unearned run to the Engineers.
Quackenbush was also named the pitcher of the week for the week ending March 14.
MASCAC HONOR FOR CANEY
WESTFIELD >> MCLA's Natalie Caney was named to the MASCAC women's lacrosse weekly honor roll.
Caney, a junior attack from Belchertown, scored eight goals and had three assists as the Trailblazers went 1-1. She had five goals and three assists in a 20-14 win over Johnson State, and scored three goals in a 20-4 loss to Mass. Maritime.
BOVIER TOP NESCAC PITCHER
HADLEY >> For the second consecutive week, a Williams softball pitcher has been named the NESCAC pitcher of the week.
Brooke Bovier, a junior from Port Orange, Fla., went 3-1 with a 1.27 earned-run average last week for the Ephs. She and teammate Dana Cohen combined to throw a no-hitter. Against Tufts, she threw 4 2/3 innings of hitless softball. Freshman Mackenzie Murphy was last week's pitcher of the week.
EPHS' DYCE EARNS TRACK HONOR
HADLEY >> Williams track and field athlete Candice Dyce was named the NESCAC women's field performer of the week.
Dyce, a junior from Cambria Heights, Queens, finished second in the triple jump at the California Collegiate invitational. Her jump of 38 feet, 7.5 inches, was a personal best and the third-best jump in Division III this year.
