WILLIAMSTOWN — Mount Greylock stormed back from a seven-run deficit to win its season opener against Hoosac Valley, 10-9.
The Mounties (1-0 overall, 1-0 Berkshire South) scored five times in the fourth, four times in the fifth and once more in the sixth en route to the victory.
"We had a big inning there in the fourth," Mount Greylock coach Steve Messina said. "Cal Messina led off with a triple. We had a walk, he scored on a passed ball. Then Zach Condon had a hit after a walk, Brandon Condon had a bunt single, we had another walk, a single, two hits in a row by Hunter Abriel and Eli Ostheimer. A couple big hits, but mostly it was bunts and moving guys around, forcing them to make plays. We weren't just ripping the cover off the ball."
Josh Jezouit pitched 4 1/3 innings in relief and picked up the win for the Mounties while Brodie Altiere registered the save.
For Hoosac Valley (0-1, 0-1 Berkshire South), Noah Matrigali doubled twice.

Jake Goodreau, who will be playing for the Pittsfield Suns this summer and at Boston College in the fall, belted a two-run home run off PHS reliever Sam Fick as the Generals dropped a 10-inning battle.
"It was great fun to finally get out there," said PHS interim coach Seamus Morrison. "We hit the ball well. A lot of times, it was right at guys."
The Generals' only run was scored in the first inning when Simon Nassif hit a two-out, RBI double. Pittsfield had a chance to take the lead in the eighth, loading the bases with two outs. But Quinn Matthews was robbed of a potential two-run single.
Chris Tracy pitched seven innings for Pittsfield, and gave UP only a fifth-inning run. Andrew Mitchell went the distance for Southwick.

"It was one of the most surreal moments I've had in my coaching career," said Boulger. "We defended well. We were strong on the basepaths."
