MIDDLETOWN, CONN. >> The Williams baseball team used a three-run second to take an early lead against Wesleyan in NESCAC action on Friday, and held on the rest of the way for a 9-2 decision.
The Ephs (7-13, 3-4 in NESCAC) got seven innings out of starting pitcher Luke Rodino, and Rodino struck out four and walked five on five hits for the win. Peter Rantz took the loss for Wesleyan after going 5 1/3 innings and striking out three on 10 hits.
At the plate, David Rosas went 2 for 4 with two RBI, and Doug Schaffer went 2 for 5 with one run batted in for the Ephs. Wesleyan's Andrew Keith went 2 for 5 in the loss.
The teams finish up their three-game series Saturday at Williams with a doubleheader.
WILLIAMS SOFTBALL 3, HAMILTON 1
CLINTON, N.Y. >> The Williams softball team scored two runs in the fifth to break open a tie game, leading the way to a 3-1 win over Hamilton on the road.
The Ephs (21-6, 4-0 in NESCAC) took the lead when Erica Li reached on an error, allowing Alison Michalik to score, then Kacey Cramer hit an RBI single to plate Li for the insurance run.
Mackenzie Murphy went 2 for 3 in the win, as did Melissa Candejas.
Murphy also got the win in the circle, striking out seven on just one hit. For Hamilton, Desmen DePaulis took the loss in relief.
The teams play again Saturday in a doubleheader at Hamilton.
