HOLYOKE >> The McCann Tech baseball team snapped a three-game losing skid with a 15-0 thumping of Dean Tech on Friday.

The Hornets (5-4, 4-2 Tri-County) put up five runs in the first inning to take command of the game. Austin Miller led the way at the plate, going 2 for 3 with two doubles and one RBI. Rob Pecor and Robert Matte each went 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Mason Field got the win, going the distance. He pitched six innings and struck out nine on two hits and a pair of walks.

"We are coming off a three-game losing streak, it's nice to get 11 hits," McCann coach Pat Ryan said. "It's always nice, a breath of fresh air, when you are scoring in the first inning and getting on top of your opponents."

WILLIAMSTOWN >> Nick Rondeau entered in relief and helped Mount Greylock defeat Lee. Starter Adam Petricca suffered from control problems, walking four in three innings, but Rondeau had pinpoint command. He struck out three and did not issue a walk in four innings. Eli Osheimer and Josh Jezouit had RBI singles in the third, giving the Mounties the lead.


"Nick really shut the door," Greylock coach Steve Messina said. "He was all around the plate, low-pitch innings. ... He ate up innings in not a lot of pitches."

LENOX >> Lenox scored four times in the sixth inning, earning a comeback win over Green Tech. Trailing by two runs heading into the sixth, the Millionaires used small-ball to close the gap. Mike Hurley reached on an error. Patrick Colvin moved him to second with a bunt. Luke Murphy followed with a two-RBI double. Pat Corcoran added a RBI bunt single and Mike Downer capped the rally with an RBI single. Connor Hanson earned the win in relief, striking out nine and allowing only one hit in five innings.

SHEFFIELD >> Mount Everett scored early and often, leading to a win over Pioneer. Gwendolyn Carpenter led the Eagles with two hits and two RBI, helping starter Chandler DeGrenier overcome a three-run home run she surrendered the Alexus Vergobee in the third inning.

Anna Quinto recorded nine saves for Pittsfield (0-7, 0-6).

CHICOPEE >> McCann Tech took a 2-0 lead early in the first quarter, but Chicopee Comp answered with a 15-0 run pulling away from the Hornets. Dan Vazquez led the Colts with six goals. Nick Lincoln led McCann Tech with two goals.

"They're quick, sharp with passes and they played to their strengths," McCann Tech Paul Lange said. "They have kids that could dodge and had kids that were shooters. ... We went up 2-0, but they came storming back and killed our momentum."

SHEFFIELD >> The Lenox boys defeated Mount Everett 4-1, and the Lenox girls used its strong singles play to win 3-2.

The Eagles won both of their matches at No. 1 singles. Patrick Hogelin defeated Henrik Palmer 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. Maya Neski defeated Victoria Vittori 6-2, 6-3.

At No. 2 singles, Hugo Hale needed three sets to defeat Jonas Malicky 6-7, 6-2, 10-6. At No. 2 doubles Rosemary Pehler and Shauna Pandell won in three sets winning 4-6, 6-4, 10-7, but Morgan Hayden and Ella King earned wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively.

WILLIAMSTOWN >> Jack Cloud and Adam Regensburg produced timely hits, helping Williams defeat Hamilton. Cloud plated one with an RBI triple in the first inning, he scored on the play off a Hamilton error. After Hamilton took the lead in the top of the fourth inning, Regensburg put the Ephs on top with a double down the left field line.

Williams looks to extend its winning streak with a doubleheader against Hamilton starting today at noon.

College Softball


WILLIAMSTOWN >> Kacey Cramer hit a walk-off single with the bases loaded for Williams, giving the Ephs their third win in a row. Sarah Freyre's two-run home run tied the game at 3-3 for Middlebury in the sixth, setting up Cramer's winning hit. MacKenzie Murphy had two hits and an RBI for Williams. She earned the win in relief as well, pitching one and one-third scoreless innings.

The Ephs conclude their regular season with a doubleheader against Middlebury, starting today at noon.
