DALTON — After six innings, it looked like Wahconah was going to pull off the biggest upset in the high school baseball season. Visiting Taconic, however, had other ideas.
The Braves (12-1) broke open a close game with six runs in the top of the seventh to knock off Wahconah 8-3 Monday afternoon.
Drew DeMartino's two-run single broke a 3-3 tie and handed the Warriors (7-6) the defeat.
Wahconah coach Rob Cowdrey called the loss a "heartbreaker"
"What we take away is Taconic is a very good team. The fact that we went toe to toe with them for six innings, says a lot about the guts on this team," he said.
Taconic's Jack Cooney closed out the scoring in the inning with a two-run double. Cooney also scored the tying run after leading off the seventh.
