CHESHIRE >> The Mount Greylock baseball team will get a chance to defend its Western Mass. Division III title.

The Mounties bounced back from a Thursday loss to Pittsfield with a 2-1 win over Hoosac Valley on Friday, qualifying the Mounties for postseason play.

Greylock (10-6) got a complete-game effort from Brandon Condon in the win. He struck out five on four hits. Matt Koperniak took the loss, also going the distance while striking out six on five hits.

Both Greylock runs were unearned.

"It was a good game," Hoosac (9-5) coach Mike Larabee said. "Both of their runs were unearned. You can't make mistakes against a good team. We made a few mistakes, and they capitalized. They played really well today."

Hoosac scored its lone run on a home run by Jake Swistak.

LENOX >> Taconic put up 14 runs in the first to run away from Lenox on Friday.


The Braves (15-2) got production from all over the lineup in the win. Brett Murphy led the way, going 4 for 4 with two doubles and three runs batted in. Cedric Rose went 3 for 4 with a home run and five RBI, while Devon Walker went 2 for 3 with three RBI.

Lenox (10-5) scored its lone run on an RBI triple by Mike Hurley.

SHEFFIELD >> Down three runs entering the home seventh, the Mount Everett softball team rallied to topple Hoosac Valley in extra innings.

The Eagles (12-3, 8-0 Berkshire South) secured at least a share of the Berkshire South regular season title with the win. The Eagles have two league games left. The loss drops the Hurricanes to 9-5, 5-2.

The home seventh started with a double by Marion DeVoti, who was then driven in on an Emily Coon ground out after Devan Galli reached base with a single. Galli was driven in on an RBI single by Morgan DeGrenier, and DeGrenier scored when a Kersten Cutlip pop-up fell in the infield.

In the bottom of the eighth, Madison Ullrich led off with a double and eventually scored on a wild pitch two batters later.

Chandler DeGrenier took the win, striking out 10 on zero walks and seven hits. Kali Puppolo took the loss, striking out nine on zero walks and six hits. Puppolo also had a pair of hits at the plate.

PITTSFIELD >> Ashley Keegan broke open a tied game in the bottom of the fifth with a three-run home run to lift Taconic past visiting Holyoke.

Keegan also took the win in the circle, striking out eight with zero walks, five hits and two earned runs. Keegan was caught by Janee Walker in the game. Walker filled in for the injured Kailey Bell, and stepped up with a 2-for-3 effort at the dish.

"We had to have Janee step up and catch today, and she did a phenomenal job," Taconic coach Kevin Harrington said. "Ashley Keegan is a game changer. Not only does she keep us in the game on the mound, but with the 3-3 game tied, she instantly changes the tide and puts the game in our favor. She's a big-time player."

Taconic (8-8) now gears up for Pittsfield on Monday.

NORTH ADAMS >> The Taconic boys lacrosse team snapped a nine-game losing streak with a win over McCann Tech on Friday.

The Braves (3-13) built up a 5-2 halftime lead, and withstood a second-half charge from McCann (1-15) to seal the deal.

"I'm so happy for the boys, they needed it badly," Taconic coach Bill O'Brien-Garvey said. "I'm proud of the effort they made today."

McCann coach Paul Lange said the flow of the game went back and forth.

"It was one of those fun games to be a part of," Lange said. "Whether you come out on the winning side or the losing side."

Sal Amaral had three goals and an assist in the win, while Cody Latimer had a hat trick. For McCann, Justin Meczywor had three goals and two assists.

WESTFIELD >> On Thursday, Mount Greylock suffered its first loss of the season on the road at Westfield.

The Mounties (14-1) and the Bombers played out a scoreless first quarter, and Greylock took a 4-3 lead into halftime. But in the third, Westfield put up eight goals to Greylock's one to take control of the game.

Pat Storie had four goals and two assists in the loss, while Reilly Parker had a hat trick of goals and two helpers.

DALTON >> Wahconah picked up a doubleheader sweep of Hoosac Valley on Friday evening.

The Warriors (14-3) got hat tricks from Brittany Quinn and Emmy Cote in the first win, a 13-5 decision, while in the second game Jordan Peck scored four goals as Wahconah won 15-8.

The Hurricanes (6-7) got a hat trick from Claudia Bresett in the first game, and in the second Alie Mendel and Aubrey Rumbolt each had hat tricks.

"The first game was a well-played game by both teams," Wahconah coach Kathy Budaj said in an email. "It is nice to see how each team has improved and how the level of lacrosse keeps getting better. Hoosac plays a nice game and they keep getting better. The second game was no different."

PITTSFIELD >> The Lenox boys tennis team defeated Pittsfield 3-2, and the Lenox girls also defeated Pittsfield 3-2.

The Millionaires used their singles play to win both matches. The teams split doubles play, but Lenox's No. 2 and No. 3 singles players won to seal victory. Alec Jordan needed three sets for a 7-5, 6-7(7-4), 6-2 win over Nick Simonds at No. 3 singles. Ella King won two close sets against Kaytlin Barcus, also at No. 2 singles.

SHEFFIELD >> The Mount Everett tennis teams brushed aside St. Mary's on Friday, with the boys winning 5-0 while the girls won 3-2.

On the boys side, Mount Everett got forfeit wins in doubles action, while the singles players won in straight sets. The closest match was at second singles, where Eduardo Rodriguez beat Matt Bruno 6-3, 6-4.

For the girls, St. Mary's won at first and third singles, but a sweep in doubles swung the match to the Eagles. The No. 1 doubles duo of Anna Dupont and Katelynn Dawson won 7-2, 7-6 over Brianna Rivera and Alexis Shedd.
