Three Wahconah track and field athletes will travel to Nashoba Regional High School today to compete in the Central/Western Massachusetts Division II pentathlon.
Lily Pudlo and Gianna Moncecchi will represent the girls, while Mike Hruby will represent the Warrior boys.
Pudlo has history with the event, participating last year with her sister, Faith.
In the 2015 pentathlon, Pudlo finished fourth out of nine competitors. Of the three girls to finish ahead of her, only Quabbin's Morgan Girarusso — who finished second — is back and competing this year.
The pentathlon is made up of five events. For the boys, it is the 110-meter hurdles, the 1500-meter run, the high jump, the long jump and the shot put. For the girls, the pentathlon includes the 100 hurdles, the 800 run and the three field events.
Last year, Pudlo finished second in the 800 and the long jump, tied for third in the high jump, fourth in the 100 hurdles and eighth in the shot put.
There will be 11 female athletes at the Central/West D-II pentathlon, and nine boys. Pudlo earned the top seed for the girls while Moncecchi is seeded 10th. Hruby is seeded eighth on the boys' side.
Only one boy returns from last year's pentathlon — Leicester's Brian Jorristma. Jorristma finished ninth last year, just outside of a points-earning position, but is seeded first this year.
The event kicks off the Central/West state qualifying meet, with top finishers earning points for the team scores to carry into Saturday's meet at Fitchburg State University.
