The Central/West track and field championships get underway today, as Division I athletes head to Westfield State University while Division II goes to Fitchburg State University. Both meets are scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
Both meets will be dotted with Berkshire County competitors, and a handful of area athletes will have their eyes on a podium finish.
Pittsfield and Taconic will participate in the Division I meet in Westfield. Each side has one athlete seeded in a position to score points at the meet.
For Pittsfield, Sadie Supranowicz earned the sixth seed in the 200-meter dash with a qualifying time of 26.48 seconds. Teammate Aliyah Bolling is seeded 10th (26.98), and Taconic's Gianna Paris is 39th.
Supranowicz also earned a 12 seed in the 100 (13.00), and is a member on the 4-by-100 relay team that is seeded 18th. The 4-by-400 team is the highest-seeded relay for Pittsfield, earning the No. 11 seed. Molly Tierney is seeded in both hurdles races, sitting at No. 11 in the 400 hurdles (1:10.8) and No. 14 in the 100 hurdles (17.16).
Taconic's David McIntosh is seeded eighth in the high jump with a qualifying jump of 5 feet, 10 inches. He will be chasing St. John's Eric Wicks, whose qualifying jump is 6-4.
David Benle is seeded 14th in the 200, and Zach Gage is seeded 17th in the 100.
For the Pittsfield boys, Jackson Rich is seeded 13th in the javelin and 17th in both the 110 and 400 hurdles.
The D-II performance list is littered with Berkshire County athletes, including a number of top seeds.
Drury's Connor Meehan is seeded first in the 800 (1:56.42), Lenox's Shannon Meisberger is the top seed in the 400 hurdles (1:05.55) and Wahconah's Sean Harvey is the top seed in the 400 hurdles (57.86).
Meisberger and Harvey also earned No. 2 seeds in the sprint hurdles, with Meisberger timed at 15.68 in the 100 hurdles while Harvey has a seed time of 15.91 in the 110 hurdles.
The Monument Mountain boys 4-by-100 relay team is seeded second for the meet (45.50) while Wahconah is seeded fourth (45.93). The Monument girls are seeded seventh in the 4-by-100.
The Wahconah boys and the Monument Mountain girls also earned No. 2 seeds in the 4-by-400 relays, with Wahconah's seed time at 3:35.59 while Monument's is 4:09.00.
The Lenox girls are seeded fourth in the 4-by-400 (4:13.43) and Wahconah is seeded 10th.
In the 4-by-800 for the girls, Lenox is seeded third (10:09.26) and Mount Greylock is fourth (10:18.20). For the boys, Wahconah is seeded third (8:46.48) and Greylock is sixth (8:50.80).
Lenox's distance runners are well-represented in the performance lists. Maggie Sorrentino is seeded sixth in the 800 (2:21.34) and eighth in the mile (5:24.41). Emma Jourdain is seeded fifth in the two mile (11:39). Tova Brown also picked up a top 10 seed in the 400, earning the No. 8 seed with a time of 1:02.09.
The Wahconah boys have Devon Mikaniewicz seeded sixth in the triple jump (40 feet, 9.5 inches) and Matt Lighten seeded ninth in the 100 (11.21).
Wahconah's Victoria Gamberoni is the lone Warrior girl to earn a top 10 seed, earning the No. 10 seed in the mile.
Hoosac Valley's Jared Haley is seeded 10th in the two mile, and Peter Barrow earned the No. 4 seed in the shot put (46-2) and the No. 6 seed in the discus (132-6).
Monument's Matt Weston is seeded in both sprints, coming in at No. 6 in the 200 (23.20) and No. 7 in the 100 (11.20). Teammate Willie Serkin is seeded ninth in the 200 (23.60).
For the Monument girls, Paige Gray earned matching No. 5 seeds in the javelin (103-6) and the shot put (34-1). Allison Kinne also earned the No. 6 seed in the 400 hurdles (1:07.60).
Mount Greylock's Maddie Albert earned the No. 5 seed in the 400 (1:01.0) and the No. 7 seed in the 800 (2:22.25). Ella Dudley earned the No. 8 seed in the 400 hurdles (1:09.57).
Tommy Kirby is seeded third in the two mile (10:03.91) for Greylock, and Cameron Castonguay is the No. 6 seed in the 400 (52.90).
