The MIAA All-State Track and Field Championships continue Saturday at Westfield State University, and a host of Berkshire County athletes will vie for top 8 finishes at the statewide championship meet.
The All-State meet started on Thursday with the boys and girls pentathlon and the girls' high jump. Wahconah's Gianna Moncecchi was the lone athlete to compete on Thursday, placing ninth in the girls pentathlon.
All events at Westfield State have 24 competitors on the performance lists. Those numbers might go down, however, depending on if athletes scratch from their events. The meet is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. for the field events, with the track events starting with the two-mile race at 4:30.
For Saturday, the highest seeded athlete is Lenox's Shannon Meisberger. The junior is seeded in the top 8 in two events, the 100-meter hurdles and the 400 hurdles. She won both events last weekend at the Central/West Division II Championships at Fitchburg State University.
For the All-State meet, Meisberger is seeded fifth in the 400 hurdles with a seed time of 1 minute, 5.8 seconds. In the 100 hurdles, she is seeded sixth with a time of 15.37. In the 100 she will chase Plymouth South's Madelyn Sessler, who is seeded first with a time of 15.01. Peabody's Cynthia Aroke and North Reading's Julia Valenti have seed times of 15.03.
In the 400, Aroke is seeded first with a time of 1:03.63, and Dartmouth's Caitlyn Demers and Milton's Elise O'Leary have seed times of 1:04.58.
In other events, Lenox teammate Maggie Sorrentino is seeded 21st in the one mile with a time of 5:15.06. The Lenox girls 4-by-800 relay team is seeded 23rd with a time of 9:55.67.
Wahconah has two boys that will compete at the All-State meet. Sophomore Matt Lighten, who won the 100 dash as the ninth seed at the Central/West D-II meet, earned the No. 7 seed for the All-State meet with his 11.09 time from last weekend. The top seed in the 100 is Needham's Davonte Burnett with a time of 10.95, while others with sub-11-second seed times include Milton's Charles Smith (10.96), Worcester Tech's George Biney (10.98) and Northampton's Nikolas Smith (10.99).
Sean Harvey will run a pair of events for the Warriors. The junior won the 400 hurdles last weekend at the Central/West meet, and will be seeded 22nd at the All-State meet with a 58.43 seed time. Harvey also has the 24th seed in the 110 hurdles, with a time of 15.90.
Drury junior Connor Meehan is seeded 14th in the 800 after winning the Central/West D-II title last weekend. His seed time is 1:56.58.
The Monument Mountain girls 4-by-400 team is the highest seeded relay team from Berkshire County, earning the No. 15 seed with a time of 4:05.81. The Monument boys will be represented by the 4-by-100 relay squad, which earned the No. 24 seed with a time of 45.67.
Rounding out county competitors is the Mount Greylock girls 4-by-800 relay team. The Mounties earned the No. 24 seed — one spot behind Lenox — with a seed time of 9:59.89.
The top six finishers from each event will move on to the New England Championships, slated for June 11 in New Britain, Conn.
