PITTSFIELD >> R.J. Hall pitched eight innings of shutout ball, scattering five hits while striking out five and walking none in leading the Pittsfield Suns to a 6-0 win over the Torrington Titans.

That's three wins in a row for the Suns, improving their record to 5-3.

Colin Gimblet went 3 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored for the Suns while Chris Cimmino was 2 for 3 with two RBI and a double.

Cam Walsh also had two RBI for Pittsfield, as the home team scored twice in the fifth and four times in the seventh en route to victory.

Ryan Simpler closed out the game when he pitched a scoreless ninth for the Suns.


NORTH ADAMS >> One day after winning its opener in extra innings, North Adams fell to 1-1 with a home loss to Valley.

The Blue Sox jumped out to a 6-0 lead and never looked back. Valley starter Alec Tuohy pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing two earned runs and picking up the win.

Luke Crabb entered for the Blue Sox and pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowing one run, while Tyler Smith closed it out with a scoreless ninth.

The SteepleCats clawed back into the game, scoring once in the fifth, twice in the sixth and once again in the seventh to pull within 6-4, but it wasn't enough.

Braxton Wilks, Dustin Shirley and John Mazza each contributed two hits for North Adams.

The SteepleCats struck out 12 times in the loss.
