NEW BEDFORD — New Bedford scored three times in the fifth inning, getting just enough offense to earn a 4-2 win over North Adams on Tuesday.

Bay Sox third baseman Robbie Doring started the scoring in the fifth after reaching base with a walk. He stole second and moved to third on a groundout. SteepleCats' starter Ryan Tapp walked the next two batters and Ryan Wolfsberg cleared the bases with a triple.

The 'Cats mounted a slight comeback in the sixth, scoring once on Edward Haus' double and again on a C.J. Price's RBI single. New Bedford starter Shane Nepiarsky retired the next two batters, ending the threat.

Ryan Tufts' sacrifice fly added an insurance run for the host in the eighth.

Nepiarsky earned the win, striking out seven in six innings.

The 'Cats return home for a game against the Mystic Schooners Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
