CHELMSFORD — The Lanesboro 12U Cal Ripken team had its season ended in the quarterfinals of the New England Regional on Monday, falling to Lisbon, Maine 10-2.
Lisbon scored two runs in the second and then, after Lanesboro tied the game in the top of the third, pushed four more runners across in the third to take a decisive lead.
Landen Jamula scored both of Lanesboro's runs with a homer in the second. He plated Oscar Low with the dinger. Jack Gitterman went 3 for 3 in the loss.
Jack Cangialosi took the loss, going 4 2/3 innings. He gave up 12 hits and nine earned runs on one strikeout and two walks. Tristan Gardner finished off the game for Lanesboro.
Lisbon's offense was paced by the long ball. Lisbon hit four home runs in the contest.
PITTSFIELD AMERICAN 10-11 LITTLE LEAGUE RAINED OUT
The Pittsfield American 10-11 little league team had its Section I championship game against Holden washed out on Monday.
The teams will try again today back in Paxton. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
BERKSHIRE ALL-STARS ROLLING AT 11U CAL RIPKEN TOURNAMENT
PEPPERELL >> The Berkshire Cal Ripken 11U All-Stars went 2-2 in pool play at the Western Mass. State Championships over the weekend, splitting games on both Saturday and Sunday.
The team played in the semifinals on Monday night, but the score was not available at press time.
On Saturday, Berkshire hit the ground running with an 18-0 win over Groton/Dunstable. Evan Trombley broke open a scoreless game in the third with a two-run triple. Berkshire added four more runs in the fifth and 12 in a sixth inning that featured 17 at bats. In the big inning, Michael Ward hit a bases-clearing triple.
Cliff Flynn started and took the win. Trombley went 2 for 3 with two walks, Brendan Armstrong scored three runs. Flynn scored four runs himself, and also struck out 10 for a complete-game shut out.
Later in the day, Berkshire fell to Ayer/Shirley 11-7.
Berkshire took a 3-1 lead after an inning, and Michael Naventi hit a RBI single to put Berkshire up 5-2 in the fifth. Ayer/Shirley, though, took the lead for good in the sixth by going up 11-5.
Naventi pitched 5 1/3 innings with three strikeouts in the loss. Dylan Ely and Ward each went 2 for 3, and Flynn had a homer and two ribbies.
On Sunday, Berkshire opened with an 8-0 win over Frontier. Ely threw a complete-game shutout, giving up one hit with six strikeouts. He also went 2 for 3 at the plate with two ribbies. Braxton Crandall went 2 for 3 with a run scored, and Blake Cella and Nick Vaber also scored runs.
In the final game of pool play, Berkshire fell to host Pepperell 4-0. Charlie Jaferian took the loss, going all six innings and giving up two earned runs. Ward had a double at the plate.
NECBL ALL-STAR GAME ENDS IN TIE
NEWPORT, R.I. >> The Northern and Southern divisions played to an 8-8 tie in the NECBL All-Star game on Sunday night at Newport's Cardines Field.
South engineered the tie behind a five-run eighth, which stopped what looked like a runaway win by North.
North Adams' Dan Holst, CJ Price and John Mazza played in the field. Holst had the best day for a SteepleCat, going 2 for 2 at the plate. Price and Mazza both went 0 for 1.
On the mound for North Adams, Braxton Wilks pitched 1 2/3 innings for the North and gave up one run on one hit, and Tanner Bird pitched 2/3 of an inning, striking out two and giving up one run on one hit and one walk.
