LEICESTER >> The MCLA men's soccer team came out firing on all cylinders Saturday afternoon, picking up its first win with a 2-0 victory over Becker.

The Trailblazers (1-1), who were shut out by nationally-ranked Montclair State earlier in the week, needed only 16 minutes and 50 seconds to get on the board. Anthony Basile scored unassisted, and the Trailblazer defense did the rest.

MCLA held Becker to two shots on goal and four shots in the game. The Trailblazers also had eight corner kicks to three for Becker. Kam Anderson registered the shutout.

Dylan Pereira scored MCLA's other goal.

MCLA WOMEN 0, RIVIER 0

NORTH ADAMS >> The MCLA women (0-0-1) opened the season by playing Rivier to a scoreless tie.

The Trailblazers had 21 shots in the game to 13 for Rivier, but the visitor's goalkeeper was up to the task all day. Lauren Goodspeed had 15 saves, including five in the two overtime periods where MCLA outshot Rivier 6-0. Megan Richardson had three saves to pick up the shutout for MCLA.

MCLA CROSS COUNTRY

BENNINGTON, VT. >> Two MCLA runners finished in the top 20 of the men's race in Southern Vermont College's Mountaineer Invitational.

Christopher Gamble finished fifth in 18 minutes, 15 seconds, some 37 seconds behind winner Greandon Smith of Castleton University. MCLA's Avery Woodbury was 16th in 19:20.

MCLA's Annie Gagnon was the top Trailblazer in the women's race. She was 20th in 27:28. Teammate Jordan DaGaetano was 23rd in 27:59.

LEBANON VALLEY RESULTS

WEST LEBANON, N.Y. >> Matt Sheppard took the checkered flag in Thursday's 100-lap Mr. DIRT Track USA feature.

Sheppard passed Brett Hearn on lap 82 and went by Kenny Tremont Jr. with 11 laps remaining. Tremont tried to catch Sheppard, couldn't, and eventually was passed by Stewart Friesen. It was the first Mr. DIRT Track USA win for Sheppard.

"My car was working really good on the bottom, and I was able to make up some ground a little bit, little bit, little bit," Sheppard said after the race. "Next thing you know, we were able to roll by them."

In the King of Dirt feature, Chris Curtis started from the pole and eventually took the checkered flag, with Joey Scarborough second. However, neither driver could not claim a victory.

In post-race technical inspections, Curtis' team reported that it had altered the camshaft due to needed repairs. Race officials gave the team the option of taking the engine apart or packing up. The Curtis team chose to pack up, resulting in a disqualification.

Then Scarborough's engine was inspected and he was disqualified due to an illegal camshaft. That gave the win to Scott Duell.
