DALTON — The good news for the Wahconah boys soccer team is that the Warriors held an early lead on visiting Mount Greylock.
The bad news was that the Mounties (1-0, 1-0 Berkshire North) scored five unanswered goals en route to a 5-1 win in the season opener for both teams.
"They kept coming at us and broke us down," Wahconah coach John Kovacs said.
Sam Dils tied the game in the 20th minute, and it was 1-1 at intermission. The Mounties scored four unanswered goals in the second half, with Naka O'Connor's tally in the 47th minute breaking the deadlock. Dils finished with two goals and an assist while Quinn Jonstadt had two goals.
"Wahconah played strong defense and disrupted our offense in the first half after capitalizing earlier," Greylock coach Blair Dils wrote in an email. "We were more fluid with possession in the second half and [were] able to open up the back line as the half wore on."
Wahconah is 0-1, 0-1.
