WILLIAMSTOWN >> The Mount Greylock Mounties took care of business at home Friday night, winning 55-6 against Pathfinder on to improve to 5-0 on the season.
The Mounties entered the game without one of their captains, Devin Pelletier, but he was still confident that his team would be able to come away with a victory.
"I have faith in my guys [Pat] Storie, [Brandon] Condon, [Sean] McCormack and [Reilly] Parker," Pelletier said. "I also can't forget about the young buck, Tyler Carnevale."
Pathfinder won the toss and decided to receive the ball, but Greylock head coach Andrew Agostini wasn't going to make it easy as Greylock attempted an onside kick. However, the onside attempt was unsuccessful.
"We play aggressive, we tried the onside kick and it didn't go our way," Agostini said. "It didn't matter, these guys stayed locked in and focused, they like to play aggressive."
Starting the game with good field position, Pathfinder grabbed a 6-0 lead when Andrew Roman scampered in for a touchdown on a keeper. The extra point was blocked by someone on the Greylock defensive line as he got his hand up, keeping the lead at six.
Not 30 seconds later, the Mounties tied the game on their first offensive play as quarterback Michael Wellspeak 77-yard bomb to McCormack, tying the game momentarily. Max Joy added the extra point giving Mount Greylock the lead.
The Greylock defense settled in on the second drive, forcing a Pathfinder punt. Before the first quarter came to an end, Wellspeak connected with Cal Messina for a 30-yard touchdown pass. Joy again added the extra point, making the score 14-6 after one.
Pathfinder quickly became one-dimensional, allowing the Greylock defense to pin their ears back and get to the quarterback. After quickly getting the ball back, the Mounties scored on a 44-yard touchdown run by Pat Storie, making the game 20-6.
Storie wasn't done in the first half, he added his second touchdown after a trick play that got the Mounties down to the one. The touchdown made the score 27-6 after the Joy point after.
With seven minutes remaining in the half, Taylor Cummings found the endzone on a two-yard run, followed by Joy's third extra point of the half, making the score 34-6. Greylock wasn't done, too, as Wellspeak connected with Condon for a 46-yard touchdown pass, making the score 40-6 right before halftime and before the point after attempt. The snap of the extra point was botched, but Wellspeak was able to recover and find the endzone on the extra point try, making the score 42-6.
In the second half, Storie was found the endzone again, this time on a 8-yard run, making the score 48-6.
Finally, with three minutes left in the game, Jude Rorke, who took over for Wellspeak, connected with Condon on a 10-yard pass for a touchdown. After the Joy PAT, Greylock finished the game with a 49-point victory.
