BOSTON (AP) -- Special Olympics Massachusetts is hosting its 2012 Summer Games in Boston this weekend.
Organizers say more than 2,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities will compete in sports including track and field, swimming, gymnastics and tennis.
Competition will happen Saturday and Sunday at the Harvard Athletic Complex on North Harvard Street.
Law-enforcement officials from across the state are expected to arrive in a "cruiser convoy" Saturday before awarding medals to the athletes.
Local firefighters will serve the athletes a barbecue at the end of Saturday's competition.
Founded in 1968 by Eunice Kennedy Shriver, the Special Olympics movement includes more than 3 million athletes across the world.
