BROCKTON -- The Pittsfield Suns players were hoping to carry the momentum from Friday's come-from-behind victory over Old Orchard Beach into Saturday's game at Brockton. The Rox had another idea.
Daniel Osorio and three relievers held the Suns to one run on eight hits and the Rox scored six unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth inning in an 8-1 win over the Suns.
Pittsfield starter Christian Lavoie gave up a two-run home run to Garrett Kelly in the fourth inning, but was a pitch from stemming the damage in the fifth when the roof fell in.
Lavoie gave up a leadoff single to Tyler Graves before retiring Lorenzo Papa and Kyle Silva. Ryan Tufts reached on an error by shortstop John Kinne, allowing Graves to score the first of the six runs. Kelly followed up his two-run homer with a two-run double that chased Lavoie. Kelly finished the night 2 for 4 with two runs scored and four runs batted in.
Josh Martin came in to relieve and promptly gave up a two-run double to Bradley Lezak, and that was that.
Three Brockton relievers held the Suns to three hits over the final four innings.
Pittsfield's only run came in the third on an RBI single by Morgan Phillips.
Steve Dill was 2 for 4 for the Suns, raising his batting average to .409.
Pittsfield was off Sunday and plays at Torrington tonight.
KEENE, N.H. -- The SteepleCats had a rough Saturday in New Hampshire, as the Swamp Bats earned a doubleheader sweep by 8-2 and 6-3 scores.
In the opener, North Adams starter Michael Murphy was roughed up for seven runs on 10 hits in 3 2/3 innings of play.
The big inning for Keene was the home fourth, where the Swamp Bats scored five runs on five hits. The key blow was a three-run double by J.P. Sportman.
In the nightcap, Keene scored five runs in the first three innings off of SteepleCats starter Mark Reece. Keene starter Nick Neumann and two relievers held the SteepleCats at bay the rest of the way.
For North Adams, catcher Cody Doyle hit his first home run of the season.
