To the editor of THE EAGLE:
Regarding the Peter Pan show, I love the Colonial Theatre and Berkshire Theatre Group, and the fantastic work they do with children and the community. I am the mother of a child actor in this year’s show, and I have something to say about it.
While everyone who has seen the show will have to admit that Charles Kerzner is the best Peter Pan ever, and that our Captain Hook is the "greatest villain of all time" (actually Ralph Petillo, the actor, is a very sweet man, and all the kids backstage love him), and the Darling children are adorable, and Smee is truly lovable, and the rest of the actors are nothing short of fabulous, I feel that credit needs to be given to those behind the scenes.
Travis Daly is the most amazing director, who loves all the kids, knows them all by name, and they love him too! He has a great vision of what he wants his shows to look like, and is able to convey this to his actors in a way that inspires them to be the best they can. Kathy Jo Grover is professional, kind, and loves the kids. Her choreography and her teaching approach are fluid, creative, and a joy to watch. Mark Gionfriddo is so patient with the kids, and they are learning a great deal about music. He has a fantastic ear, and has turned those kids into a world-class chorus.
Special credit is due to Robert Alder, the stage manager for this show. He is the one who makes sure that everybody and everything are where they should be, and that the show goes as planned. His understanding of theater, his ability to handle everything that is thrown at him with a calm shrug and a sense of humor, his impeccable timing and brilliant organizational skills have made this show a delight to be a part of. The rest of the crew are just as dedicated and talented.
The children of Berkshire County are so fortunate to have an opportunity to be part a Broadway-caliber show of this quality.
