To the editor of THE EAGLE:
As I read the paper daily regarding the horrific details of bloodshed all over Egypt it sickens me that in Monday’s paper there should be a "split" decision over cutting funds. Where is our morality? Do we as an American government only worry about the bottom line? What we might lose if we choose to stand up for what we ourselves believe in?
I find it appalling that the people I voted for to lead this country can stand by and even contemplate continuing to help a country with $1.3 billion in military aid that is clearly used to slaughter innocent people. We need to return to "a government of the people for the people" instead of "a government of the money for the money."
No aid should be given to a country that refuses to sit down and discuss alternatives to make itself better but instead uses all its assets to slaughter people in the streets. Nearly 900 dead -- what’s the magic number when we say enough! REBECCA O’BRIEN
