NORTH ADAMS -- North Adams Public Schools Superintendent James E. Montepare announced the hiring of John R. Franzoni as principal of Brayton Elementary School.
Franzoni will replace principal Sarah Madden, who will begin her new job as principal of the R.K. Finn Ryan Road School in Northampton this school year.
"Mr. Franzoni is a dedicated professional with a proven track record as an administrator who, I believe, will provide consistent and supportive leadership for our Brayton community," Montepare said in a written statement.
Franzoni, a graduate of Drury High School, is a veteran educator with 23 years experience.
He holds a bachelor's in business administration from Bryant University, and a master's in curriculum and teaching from Fitchburg State University. He is certified as a principal/assistant principal for pre-kindergarten through Grade 12, and is also certified in teaching mathematics for grades 5 through 8.
Franzoni is currently working toward superintendent credentials.
While he may be new to Brayton, Franzoni is no stranger to the North Adams school district.
Last year, he served as assistant principal for Greylock and Sullivan elementary schools and was previously a dean of students there. He served six years as a school district liaison to the Berkshire Juvenile Court in North Adams, and was the athletic director for Drury High School from 2005 to 2011.
