To the editor of THE EAGLE:
For many years we have read about Andy and Richie Congdon on The Eagle sports page and about the great golf scores that the two have shot, along with the local, state and national tournaments they have won. I have had the privilege of playing golf with and against both Andy and Richie.
I feel the need to remind readers about a third Congdon, Ray, Andy and Richie’s dad. Back in the early 1950s, when I was trying to enter the world of golf, I knew Ray. He was also a great golfer from the Great Barrington area. He was a great man. There wasn’t one time that we were in the same area that Ray didn’t come up to me and shake my hand and ask how I was doing. I cannot express how good that can make a young person feel. Later on, when I began to play golf fairly well and played in his company, the greeting and conversation never stopped.
Andy and Richie, keep on playing, winning, and most of all enjoying the game of golf. I’m sure that there is a cigar-smoking gentleman rooting for you both from above.
